Sacramento Small Developer Incubator Workshop
As a partnership between PLACE Initiative, the City of Sacramento, and the Incremental Development Alliance, the first Small Developer Incubator Training Workshop was held in Sacramento on March 8th, 2024.
Small scale, incremental development is a tested approach to cost-effectively preserving existing buildings, strengthening their blocks, and improving the financial fundamentals of their contexts over time. This 8-hour in-person class explained the processes and concepts a small developer encounters in a project in a manner that is accessible to private, public and non-profit audiences.

PLACE Transportation Talks: January 28th, 2024
PLACE Initiative hosted our first installment of Transportation Talks in January 2024, a hybrid meet-up to discuss the advancement local and national policy reform for safer and more equitable transit.
We were joined virtually by two inspiring transportation reform advocates:
• Wesley Marshall, author of Killed by a Traffic Engineer
• Todd Litman, founder of the Victoria Transportation Policy Institute
The event included a Q&A session, and for those who attended in person, time to connect and discuss shared interests and opportunities to improve mobility for everyone.
Urban Thinkers Campus: Getting Around in the 21st Century
PLACE Initiative, in partnership with ULI Northwest Arkansas and the World Urban Campaign by UN-Habitat, held a series of talks at the 2024 ULI Northwest Arkansas Place Summit 2024.
The theme, “Getting Around In The 21st Century: Transportation, Mobility, and the Public Realm” included three distinct sessions featuring presentations and talks from a wealth of speakers. The sessions included:
- Building for Bikes
- Placemaking and Systemic Change
- Integrating Transit
